what is the outcome of using water color on regular canvas?
im doing a portrait of charles manson for my pychology class and i want an acid lsd drug look for the background. i plan on painting him with acrylic but using water color for the background. kind of to bring him out and pay attention less on the background since it will be pretty well water washed. so whill the water color work or will the canvas compleatly reject it?
i suggest using acrylics thinned out with a acrylic medium to the consistency of water or close to it. with this you will be able to achieve the same affects as acrylic paint and it shall work better with a canvas than with water color. you can use the water color on the canvas but it will not truly adhere to the surface. the surface will not suck up the pigment like paper will and instead it will just sit on the top and can easily rub off or smear once you try to paint the portrait on the canvas. the use of the acrylic will make sure that id doesnt smear when you paint the portrait as well as give your painting long lasting durability.
